Update, of a Liz comm nature
And Torchwood continues to be really rather good! Tosh, oh Tosh.
Have been off sick today, so I got around to setting up
legsofscience. (That won the poll with 14 votes, narrowly beating brains_in_boots with 12.
littledarkvoice, would you like to be credited?). I'd like a few co-mods and I need some lovely person to design a layout, header etc. Can anyone help?

Am having some trouble coming up with an appropriate tag list - perhaps just what people think works, edited for consistency? *grins*
Also! Howzabout a Liz Shaw ficathon? I've got some organizational stuff all sorted, but I think we may want to hold off until after
Should we start up some kind of formalized watch-a-thon? Or, y'know, should I post a poll in the comm asking what people want to see?
*excited* :D

I suppose we should have tags for fic, icons, vids etc. Should we have character/pairing tags? For fics and icons and such. Except then the character tag Liz would have to be applied to every entry of fanwork and that's a bit silly, because it's a Liz comm.
Shall I set fic, icons, vid, discussion tags and then perhaps character tags can be added appropriately later if necessary?
A ficathon would be very very awesome. I suppose you mean the first
Hmm. Well, a formalized watch-a-thon would have the advantage of starting from Liz's entertainingly cynical and UST-filled introduction. However, offering the choice in a poll would give people a chance to vote for watching their shiny new Silurian boxsets. (I got paid so I ordered it! £30 on both the Internet and in Virgin/zavvi, but for some reason my friend was so desperate that she should order it on my behalf that she offered to pay half. She doesn't even like Classic Who.)
*excited too* :D

Hah, no kidding - I saw us on
The character/pairing tags is where I hit something of a block, for precisely the reasons you'd mentioned. *winks* Fic, icons, vid, discussion sounds like a good place to start. We can always just not have a Liz tag, for obvious reasons, but I'd love to see some multi-era Liz fics show up, and those are Very Difficult to Tag beforehand (Liz/Turlough! Liz/Saxon! Liz/Bannakaffalattawossname! You never know what'll turn up!).
Since I've just been reminded by virtue of staring at it for the last couple hours, I'll get us on the
I'll post two polls right away, if that's okay - one on the ficathon timing (would people be interested, when, etc.), and one on which serial to discuss first?
(Am very, very jealous of your boxset, by the way! *grins*)

I'll add those as a start then. And add a bit in the rules about tagging entries.
Ooh,
Go right ahead with the polls! It'll be nice to have more than just the inital posts in there.
Spending money on Doctor Who DVDs is my type of retail therapy and, when taken in conjunction with chocolate, can cure just about everything for me. My mother always tries to harsh my squee when I get a new Doctor Who DVD, by going on about 'So, how much have you got saved for university then?' Although I will admit to slight worry when I look at my payslip and see that I have been paid over £1000 in total this financial year when I've been broke before this month's pay. Seriously, where's it gone?
If I ask very very nicely, will you write Liz/Bannakaffaetcetera?

I've also sent a shout-out to my fellow editors (me being a newbie, can't add us to the watchlist myself just yet), and we should be on the list for tomorrow's
I can create us a mods-only e-mail, if you're interested (couldn't help noticing that legsofscience@gmail.com is available!). That way we could all check for mod-paging requests, etc.
Seriously, where's it gone?
No kidding! My money disappears so unexpectedly - especially since I discovered PayPal. *hangs head in shame*
If I ask very very nicely, will you write Liz/Bannakaffaetcetera?
*head explodes*
I think I might just have to at some point, mightn't I? :D

The word logistics is scary, so yes, you deal with those please.
I like the idea of the email. Even if the community's fairly quiet, that would be a way for all of us to have the opportunity to deal with anything without manually checking the community.
*pats* No-one will judge you. I am just grateful that Amazon doesn't allow PayPal as a method of payment. Writing out a cheque is just too much hassle and I am more moderated in my habits on the High Street, where I'm handing over real money straight out of my wallet.
*pulls out roll of sellotape and starts to stick fragments together, hopefully in the right order/shape*
Please?

obsessionfriend! :D*does not back away slightly, really*
Oh, not 'test tube'? Also, I've screened that comment.
*hands spare sellotape in case of emergencies*
Oh, and I'll tag the polls as !mod post and polls, okay?

Yay, sounds good!
I'm still ridiculously excited about all this. Huzzah! :D

Being ridiculously excited is good!

I would encourage people to buy at least Spearhead From Space and Inferno, because they're available on DVD for as little as £9 in the High Street.
The Ambassadors of Death isn't, however.
And if anyone had a copy of the PROBE stories that they wanted to share, I for one would be rather delighted.
How about just specifying that any downloads should be flocked and mentioning that the DVDs are available?
no subject
But it is, of course, a little bit tricky for those of us on the other side of the pond! Shipping is just miserably high.
That said/whined, I'm all for promoting the DVDs alongside downloads! But we really, really shouldn't mention downloads in the community info, just on principle. A mod post describing what you've just said should be good.
(While I don't have the PROBE stories - WANT! - I do have "The Well-Mannered War" and "The Blue Tooth", etc. I'd be happy to share!)
Also, all of Liz's stories are available on YouTube. Neat!
This is a pretty small-scale operation, but it's worth noting that most communities that offer downloads are either moderated or only allow people to post their stuff on request - no direct links to get killed off so quickly! Food for thought, anyway.
(Icon war!)
EDIT: And by "The Well-Mannered War", I meant "The Scales of Injustice". Brain, where you at?
no subject
So, a mod post stating the policy and listing the YouTube links?
'The Scales of Injustice' is available on the BBC site as an ebook. I just read it there. http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/classic/ebooks/scalesofinjustice/index.shtml
Can you poor deprived Americans/Canadians access it? If so, I'll link to that as well.
Oh, The Blue Tooth *wibbles* I listened to that in August on the way down to Cornwall (7 hours car journey then 2 Doctor Who-less weeks. The cottage only had a video player. I survived on audios and found a video of The Mind Robber in a bric-and-brac shop and that was very much YAY. Despite my brother's comments about the Trout being the worst actor in the history of ever.)
Brain, where you at?
It's still over there, I haven't finished rebuilding your head yet. It's sitting next to the missing 'are'. ;)
